Extra Peat

Peat is so much more than a stylistic trait or a differentiating factor which tempts whisky drinkers to test their mettle. It is much more than a simple addition of ‘smoky’ flavours which overwhelm all the many others. Peat was and still is a defining aspect of Scotch whisky. Distilled, Aged and Blended in Scotland, MacRoys Extra Peat Whisky is then given a smoky flavour by compounds which are released by the peat fires used to dry malted barley. The length and intensity of exposure to the peat smoke dictates the strength of this flavour as do the characteristics of the peat itself.

Tasting Notes

Colour Deep Amber

Nose Sweet and smoky with aromas of toasted nuts, chimney soot, honeycomb and cocoa powder

Palate Layers of treacle toffees, campfire smoke, cooked fruits and Danish pastry fading into liquorice and cake spices.

Finish Warming and balanced with notes of honey, milk chocolate and rolling tobacco with hints of peat smoke lingering on the tongue

Bourbon Barrel Matured

Matured using the BB1 barrels, the once used American oak bourbon barrels holding only bourbon. This infuses a distinct character to this Scotch Whisky. The BB1 barrels are carefully selected for ageing and are used to create a whisky as special as MacRoys.

MacRoys bourbon matured whisky is crafted using exclusive malt, matured in bourbon casks whose charring produces lactins which help develop coconut and vanilla characteristics, bringing out soft, fruity-sweet and a smooth blend.

This whisky is full of personality and blends in perfect harmony to create a rich, full-flavoured spirit.

Tasting Notes

Colour Deep Amber

Nose Pronounced and sweet with aromas of toasted almonds, dried fruits, coco powder and oat granola

Palate Luscious and soft with notes of milk chocolate, prunes and maple syrup with sweet spice highlights of nutmeg and vanilla pod

Finish Warming and long with mellow layers of oatmeal porridge, toasted oak, walnut and dark chocolate.

Sherry Finish

This style of whisky was discovered somewhat by accident. Historically, sherry was a popular import into the UK. It arrived 'in bulk' in wooden casks, and was decanted into bottles when bought by customers. This left the empty casks as a by-product. Some canny soul saw an opportunity to reuse those empty sherry casks, rather than let them go to waste. And while it may have started as simple convenience, people soon realised the whisky was actually enhanced by those sherry casks.

MacRoys Sherry Finish Whisky is a beautiful expression wherein the whisky is aged for a period of time in a BB1 (First Fill ex-bourbon cask) infusing vanillin fruity-sweet character. The whisky is then transferred into a cask that held sherry, this layers the sherry flavour profile onto the whisky, building out the overall character.

NOSE Sweet and inviting with aromas of praline, cocoa powder, roast coconut and toffee.

PALATE Rich and layered with notes of chocolate raisins, crème caramel and oat biscuits followed by burnt sugar, cinnamon and oak spices

FINISH Warming and long with maple syrup and coffee grounds fading into a sweet, nutty linger
